“Most Americans would have a difficult time telling you specifically what the values which some Americans live by. They have never given this matter any thought” (Robert Kohl’s, P.1) Some Americans value their rights, such as Women’s Rights, Black Lives Matter, and other societal movements they value. Equality of my understanding, is supposed to be created where as people are seen as equal and be able to come together as one. But the issue with Equality is we aren’t seen as equal and neither do we have Equal Rights and opportunities. For an example, some people have the privilege of being able to attend a school and get a proper education, while others do not have the privilege of attending a school.

In class we read the book To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee and watched the short film, Requiem for The American Dream by Noam Chomsky. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird Scout was bullied because she did things better than a male could. Being a female growing up to Scout didn’t matter she would do anything to keep from being called a girl (Shmoop.Ch.4).” Women like Scout should not have to down play their masculine side just because a male is intimidated by it. For an example ‘’YESALLWOMEN is a twitter hash tag and social media campaign which people share stories and examples about the violence happening toward the women in our community today. ‘’Women intentionally choose career paths that they

know pay poorly – without acknowledging the disparity in the way we value jobs predominantly held by women’’. Also H. Clinton suffered hardship during her running for presidential office.

Future orientation is goal setting for the future because it is in your hands. You choose your own path to live by It deals with inequality such as women’s right and issues with people of color (POC).

Change And Privacy

In the novel “To Kill A Mockingbird” each of the main characters changed quite a bit. Through the experiences each character went through and the natural maturing that occurred in each of them, the characters were altered from the way they were at beginning of the book. The children, Scout and Jem, were the two most changed characters. However, Scout showed much more change than Jem did because of his mysterious hidden attitude. Scout matured from a helpless and naive child into a much more experienced and grown-up young lady.
As a growing young girl, Scout was learning and experiencing things just like any other child would though growing up. She got older and was able to understand things a lot better as well as being able to apply lessons she had learned in her everyday life (Lee 32). She began to act slightly more grown up in situations such as Aunt Alexandria’s dinner party (Lee 86-87). Scout forgot how much she despised her Aunt and how much she disliked dresses and joined the group of women in their conversations (Lee 81). Despite how she didn’t want to “act more like a lady”, she played along with her Aunt’s “campaign to teach Scout to be a lady” made an exception to please her Aunt and to create some peace between them (Lee 86-87). Upon hearing the news of Tom’s death she concludes “if Aunty could be a lady at a time like this, so could I” (Lee 89). This shows how Scout was beginning to act more ladylike for her Aunt                 Another way Scout changed a lot was in the way she treated Boo Radley. At the beginning of the book Jem, Dill, and herself enjoyed playing “Boo Radley” as a game and tormenting him by trying to have a chance to see him or prove their bravery by touching the house (Lee 15). As time went on, Scout’s fears and apprehensions regarding the Radley place slowly disappeared. She mentions how “the Radley Place had ceased to terrify me (her)…” As she matures and is more able to take care of herself, she realizes more and more that Boo Radley is a human being, just like herself (Lee 278). By the end of the book, Scout even finally begins to call him by his real name, Arthur Radley, or Mr. Arthur, instead of the nickname giving to him by the townspeople, Boo Radley (Lee 278-9). When Arthur saves the children’s lives the night Bob Ewell attacks them, Scout finally has her chance to see him. Without even being told, she knows that it is him. Instead of acting like a child about it, she maintains a very mature and adult-like attitude. She escorts him “to the chair farthest from Atticus and Mr. Tate. It was in a deep shadow. Boo would feel more comfortable in the dark” (Lee 251). At the end of the night, she walks him home and says goodnight to him, all the while acting like it was an everyday occurrence. She stepped up to the plate of adulthood, ignoring her childhood innocence to make this man feel as relaxed possible.

I believe that privacy in the workplace is becoming a problem. More employees are being monitored today than ever before and more companies are developing security. Employees don’t realize how often electronic monitoring happens in their work place. Some workers do not operate at their best performance due to this type of scrutiny. There are also several benefits. Not only do companies save money from employee theft and vandalism, employees can feel more confident that their coworkers who don’t pull their own weight will be terminated.

Home and at work are the places where people spend most of their time. As privacy is continuously be tested, there will be new laws and regulations as to exactly what our privacy rights are. With technology on the fastest growth in history there will also be laws on electronic privacy and the selling of personal information (Chomsky). Public interactions and dealings in business should be subject to some observation but the home should be where the right to privacy is the most important (Chomsky).

The American values

Do you Know What Competition and Time & its Control really means to Americans, competition means when someone compete and win it brings the best out of someone and to me it means when you , time and control means that when people use time it can be used in different ways and how it controls us for example we can be on time, gained time, wasted time and time is controlling us because when someone is planning a party or something and you have to be there at a certain time and you cant make it cause your so busy then your late or you missed it is because you lost track of time.

Next an example of Competition and Time & its Control is used in the game NBA 2k, and when you play against someone  and you win you would think that you are the best and it makes you feel good about yourself and when you create your character you upgrade him so that he can be better than anybody else and that you are the best and that you are competition to everyone else It uses time by when your playing a game and you have a certain amount of time to score as much as you can before the time run out and if you don’t hurry and take the ball out you will get charged with an 8 second violation. That’s how Competition and Time & Control is used in this game.

Third in the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” the book is about a girl named scout and how she is challenged or competing against the boys at her school because she is a girl who is competitive, she is in competition because she does things better than the boys and do something’s they can’t. Atticus is in competition because he is a lawyer who is defending a black man in a trial and if he didn’t defend him he would basically loose his respect around town. The book uses time when you read about how long it took Atticus to get ready for the trial it took him 2 months so that he could get ready.

Last is the movie about the Requiem for the American dream and how it shows Competition and how it uses Time & its control. For example, in the movie how they showed the highest earning in tax rates and the lowest earning in tax rates and they showed how they were going up and down in the Great Depression threw time, also showed how much the capital made threw out the years. This movie really doesn’t show an example of completion and so these are some example of two of the American Values Competition and Time & its Control.

Values We Live By

America has lots of values and each one is important in their own way. Some of them are what we follow with the laws while others applies to for our personal lives or our family. But in other regions or foreign countries, our values and laws are way different from theirs and might misunderstand us. But we’re here to talk about 2 values that are part of our society and those are Time, which is when you decide what to do with it, and Individual/Privacy, which is when you have personal space to yourself and is where you cherish someone special to you. And not only that; they are always reference in books, games, and television; and speaking of books, here is the first paragraph.

TKAM talks about a girl name Jean Louise “Scout” Finch where she tells us about her childhood and the ups and downs with it. But we’re not here to talk about the whole books, but to compare it with Individual/Privacy and there tons of example. One is Individual where in chapter 15, Scout, Jem, and Dill goes to the jail house and see a lynch mob telling Atticus, Scout and Jem father, to let Tom Robison, a black man whose Atticus defending claiming he innocent, go and let them hang them before they hurt Atticus. But Scout wouldn’t allow that and ran out to save her father and convince the mob to leave and go home. Scout loves her father and would do anything to protect him and the rest of the family. There is also a example of Privacy where in chapter 11 Jem needed time to himself because he destroy Mrs. Dubose flowers and Scout baton and hurts her in the process. I could go on and on with more examples of these values, but these 2 example are important because Scout sometimes have adult mind and Jem growing up are the changes they have in the next few chapters because of Atticus said to them. What I think about this values is that applies to me because I like my stuff private and don’t let anybody and also goes in depressing sometimes and I just need some time to clear my mind and move forward. I also too would anything to protect my family and friends because they’re the ones who encourages me to stand back up and try again.
